Roanoke College is gearing up for a grand celebration. Hundreds of students, faculty and staff will celebrate the College’s annual President’s Ball on Saturday, Nov. 3 from 8 p.m. to midnight in the Colket Center.
Hosted by Mike and Terri Maxey, the President’s Ball is open to all current Roanoke students, faculty and staff (plus a guest) at no charge. Attire is semi-formal, with black-tie optional (think cocktail party meets prom). A cash bar is available to those with a valid ID.
The Colket Center will be transformed for the occasion. Each floor will have different décor, food and music. The Domino Band will cause a stir in the Wortmann Ballroom, playing everything from Frank Sinatra to 1980’s tunes. In the Commons, sing along to your favorite songs with Cutting Edge Dueling Pianos. Meanwhile, DJ Lil Fos will turn up the heat, club-style, in the Cavern.
A photographer will take party pictures, which can be ordered online.
There also will be a competition for the student residence area with the best attendance (residential, off-campus and commuter students included). The area with the largest number of party-goers can earn bragging rights for a year and the chance to win a new iPad. Students should bring their RC IDs to be scanned. The winner will be announced next week.
Faculty and staff have a chance to win a prize by “checking in” at the ball. They should be sure to sign in (legibly) to the guestbook at the registration table in the Colket Center’s Main Atrium.
On Monday, organizers will draw randomly the name of an employee who attended the ball. That employee will win a $50 Visa card.
The President’s Ball began in 2007 as the grand finale to the many campus events honoring the inauguration of President Maxey. The first President’s Ball was so much fun for the entire campus family that Maxey declared it an annual fall celebration.
