Detailed landscape paintings filled with colors of spring hang on the walls, while portraits seem to come to life on canvas.
Through March 8, see artwork by 17 Roanoke College students at the Liminal Gallery at Community High School in downtown Roanoke.
The exhibit is the Exchange 81 Show, and it’s named for Interstate I-81 that connects the three schools — Roanoke, Hollins University and Emory & Henry College — that are represented in the show. The gallery is showcasing 79 works of art by students from these institutions.
Roanoke’s student artist participants include Courtney Lancaster, Courtney Robb, Julien Nicolas, Jhovan Hernandez, Claire Allison, Sarah Brighton, Michelle Pierce, Sierra Rock, Marie Isoe, Adam Ferguson, Renae Dower, Patrick Pagans, Olivia Freeman, Caroline Freeman, Alexandra Kies, Megan Puckett and Nicholas Weirup.
A variety of art work is on display at the gallery, including paintings, printmaking, drawings, ceramics, sculpture, mixed media, fibers and photography.
Through the Exchange 81 Show, organizers hope that college students will get to know each other and learn more about art in the process. This artistic collaboration is in its second year.
