It was a big night for Roanoke College last night at the annual Blue Ridge chapter of PRSA gala dinner.

Roanoke College took home three Summit awards in the following categories:
- Silver Summit Award for Website Development for the Athletics Website Redesign
- Silver Summit Award for Special Event for Rooney’s Big Debut
- Silver Summit Award for Student Portfolio
For the first time ever, there was a student category for a body of work through the semester. We’re very excited that one of our own, Megan Semmelman ‘11, won this inaugural award for her public relations work. Semmelman submitted press releases and feature stories she had written, including the story about a lost class ring found by a Roanoke College staff member, Bob Shupe, after being lost for 30 years. One of the judges for this category said about Semmelman’s work: “What a nice writing style! I’m a professional writer, and I’m very pleased with these pieces.” Semmelman is a sociology major with a concentration in communications and she is a student writer for the Public Relations office.
The athletics website was a collaborative project and we’d like to thank New City for the design and ICS Sidearm for the back end implementation and content management system. We’d also like to thank everyone involved with Rooney’s big debut at Alumni Weekend 09. The Mascot team began the work by reviewing all the mascot ideas. Once Rooney was selected, Athletic Director Scott Allison, members of the Public Relations Office and abeedle.com worked to prepare for the event. Rooney was ready for the big debut thanks to Phoenix Design Works, Street Characters and Charlton Jordan. Thanks to everyone involved!
