Dr. Paul R. “Rand” Dotson ’90 lives in a historic neighborhood of Baton Rouge known as Spanish Town, next to the state capitol. He works at Louisiana State University Press as a senior acquisitions editor and teaches history at the University.

Earlier in December, Dotson awoke in the wee hours of the morning to the smell of smoke. At first he thought it was someone’s wood stove, and then realized that his apartment building was on fire. He began to wake the residents of the other apartments and grabbed his pet cockatiel, “Audrey Hepbird.”

Everyone escaped safely but the apartment building was a total loss. Dotson was the subject of a story in Salem Times Register. Good to know that Rand is safe after such a scary incident.
