Big Snow!

by Teresa Gereaux on December 22, 2009

On Friday afternoon, December 18, snow began to fall on the Roanoke College campus and throughout Virginia. By Saturday, more than 17 inches of snow blanketed the Commonwealth and tied up travelers on roadways and in airports. Thankfully, most students had already made their way home for the holidays before the snow hit, but staff and some faculty were still on campus. Many Roanoke employees held down the fort while most of us were home watching the snow from our warm living rooms.

So, here’s a BIG thanks to all of those who manned the shovels, scrapers and other equipment to allow the campus to be ready for business on Monday. A delayed opening allowed time for freezing temperatures to warm and parking lots to thaw.

The folks who worked long hours include Physical Plant and Grounds staff, Campus Safety officers and staff and student dispatchers.

We appreciate their dedication and hard work during winter weather emergencies to keep the College running.
